Protecting the people from themselves
September 9, 2011 - Omaha, Nebraska
Love your flip book! I, too, am in Omaha! I was living in Des Moines, Iowa during 9/11 and watched on tv. I was in my pj's until 1:00 in the afternoon! Talking to my Dad on the phone, who was here in Omaha, as the second plane hit. I am one of those that still cry today when thinking of that day. My brother in law was living in NY and a camera man for NBC. Couldn't get him on the phone! Tried for hours, knowing he would be right down there filming! Finally, we heard from him that he was fine.
Scott, what I think needs to be published are the "real" photographs of that day. The falling/jumping souls. The pieces of the fallen. The horrific photos of that day. THAT is what really happened! THAT is what was done to us! THAT is the reality of that day! THAT is what we need to keep in mind. If we focus on the emotional loss only, the reality will be pushed aside.
Do you believe that showing people falling from the towers is respectful to the victims and their families?
I believe televising those horrible images including the plane crashes and building collapses repeatedly to a worldwide audience gave power to very people that wanted to frighten us. How would you respond to my criticism of the news media?
I completely agree with you. No, I do not believe that showing people falling from the towers on TV is respectful to the victims and their families. Nor do I believe that televising the images including the crashes repeatedly is needed.
I wrote what needs to be "published" are "real photographs" of that day. That is the tragedy of that day. That is what happened to those people. That is what they did to us. That is the hatred they have for us. Make no mistake, that is what they will continue to do to us.
I have a couple books on 9/11. BIG, FAT books. There are one or two shocking photos. That is the reality of it to me. Not 200 pictures of the rubble.
I am not a believer of government or the media protecting the people from themselves. But, I don't see any point in televising it over and over.
