O! Public Art Project Booklet
|
I personally assemble each booklet in my studio in Omaha, Nebraska. They are printed on a color laser printer using archival paper. The booklet measures 4 x 3 inches (10.16 x 7.62 cm) with 14 pages, staple binding, signed, and dated.
In 2007, a health insurance company based in Omaha, Nebraska, commissioned 22 local artists to decorate large “O” letter forms. I responded to this ridiculous branding of my city by building a giant penis sculpture to violate the public art project. I documented my guerrilla performance art on YouTube, and my video received twice as many views than the official video released by the Omaha Chamber of Commerce. Even though my stunt was controversial, many of the participating artists appreciated the joke, and I continue receive positive feedback from the creative community.
In 2012, the U.S. Olympic Swim Trials were held in Omaha, Nebraska. Another insurance company based in Omaha installed a 12-foot-tall by 25-foot-wide swimmer to welcome the athletes. The large sculpture was facing one of the city’s busiest thoroughfares. Security monitored the swimmer 24-hours a day, and a constant stream of tourists filed in, waiting to get their picture taken with the sculpture. My “souvenir” photo received overwhelming support from Omaha and beyond.
