Barcode Gary Vaynerchuk
Barcode Gary Vaynerchuk was created on my computer using Photoshop. Each barcode is taken from a bottle of wine that Gary has reviewed on his video blog, Wine Library TV. The portrait is 7' x 7', printed on paper, and hung on aluminum poles. A computer equipped with a barcode scanner and special software that I developed plays short video clips of Gary drinking the corresponding wine. The final installation combines 2D flat art with video and sound to create an interactive multi-media experience.

In 2006, Gary started the video blog Wine Library TV, a daily internet webcast devoted to the subject of wine. This launched his career as an Internet celebrity. He is the author of The Thank You Economy (HarperBusiness, 2011) and Crush It! Now is the Time to Cash in on Your Passion (HarperStudio, 2009). Gary is also a public speaker on the subjects of social media, brand building, and e-commerce.

Gary Vaynerchuk has a very positive and outgoing personality. His passion and enthusiasm are infectious, which led me to the design of the portrait. I gave the barcodes an upward lift, which not only mimics the shape of a wine bottle, but it is also meant to provoke a smile from viewers.
